You must have heard of many myths related to health and even tried to get answers through the internet. Here in this blog, we’re about to debunk eight health-related myths which have been circulating for a long time.
It’s time to stop believing them and do what is right for you.
1. Myth – Eggs raise cholesterol levels

2. Myth – Cracking knuckles can cause arthritis

3. Myth – If you are out in a cold environment, you’ll catch cold
Fact – No, this is incorrect. The amount of time spent in the cold air will not make you sick. There is no direct link that associates cold weather with the common cold. The weather alone is not responsible for making people fall sick. It is vital to note that the common cold virus can very well spread at a higher temperature. One can catch a cold from viruses in the environment and not just by being in poor weather.
4. Myth – Walking 10,000 steps a day makes you healthy
Fact – It’stime for you to break this myth. Though walking is a fantastic exercise, 10,000 steps a day is not likely to make a person fit as exercise is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
5. Myth – One can catch STDs from dirty toilet seats
Fact – We can’t deny that dirty toilets can be gross and unhygienic but, no one can contract a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) from a toilet seat. Sexually transmitted infections are caused by viruses, parasites, and bacteria. These organisms can’t survive on hard surfaces like toilet seats.
6. Myth – Coffee stunts growth and development in teenage
Fact – The popular myth that teenagers should not drink coffee isn’t correct. The truth is that only genetics determine one’s body structure. There is no scientific study that suggests that coffee is a reason for slow growth in a teenager.
7. Myth – Using microwave ovens can cause cancer
Fact – Microwave ovens heat your food and do nothing else. They do emit a form of non-ionising radiation but that is not known to cause cancer in humans (as they are not strong enough to alter the structure of the cells).
8. Myth – Drinking less than eight glasses of water per day is bad
Fact – There is no scientific evidence behind this myth. If you fail to drink less than eight glasses of water, you’ll not die for sure. It is important to note that everyone has a different hydration need. There is a need to set an individual limit of daily water intake as per the activities involved and dehydration signs.
Try not to blindly follow any of the myths that you hear from people around you. Instead, research on them before actually following them.
