COMMON HAIR MYTHS BUSTED

Worried about your luscious locks? Is your hair health degrading day by day? Either you are not at all aware of how to take care of your hair, or you simply believe in myths circulating on the internet with a promise of healthy locks.

There are numerous hair related myths circulating that we will shed some light on:

1. Hair grows faster when it’s uncombed

If you don’t comb or clean your hair, it does not mean that there are fewer chances of hair breakage or damage. Refraining from a shower to keep your locks from breaking won’t help, instead it will damage the core as it will result in greasy locks with an unpleasant smell. Your hair is in its healthiest state when cleaned and conditioned.

2. Pulling out greys will enable better hair growth

Constant pulling out of grey hair strands in the belief that it will enable better hair growth is futile. Just stop pulling out greys as it impacts your scalp and puts stress on the hair follicle. The more you pluck, the more stress on the scalp, and hence the hair that grows in its place will grow back with a coarser texture and weird hair growth pattern.

3. Brush your hair often for healthier growth

No one should believe this myth at any cost, as you must have heard that the more you brush your hair, the healthier it will get. Excessive brushing has more disadvantages than advantages. As per the American Academy of Dermatology, 100 brush strokes a day isn’t required. Brushing more often can result in more hair loss than gain.

4. You should wash your hair daily if your hair is oily

It is never okay to wash your hair daily, even if you have an oily scalp or oily hair. The burning question now is how often one should wash their locks? The answer to this is that regular washing is not going to help you get rid of the oil, as it won’t affect the activity of the oil glands. The best is to wash your hair on alternate days to minimise the greasiness.

5. Cold showers are best to get shinier hair

Cold water showers close the hair’s cuticle and don’t make your hair shiny. Go for the best hair conditioner as per your needs, concentrate on healthy eating habits, and have a good hair care routine to achieve shiny hair.

6. Regular trimming will make it grow faster

It is just a myth. For good hair growth, patience, a balanced diet and hair care are required to make your hair grow faster. However, many stylists recommend trimming your hair every six weeks to eliminate split ends. Trimming is beneficial, but it won’t help  grow your hair at a faster rate.

7Switching shampoo is a good option

It isn’t a good idea to switch shampoos as per a myth that after a particular period, shampoos lose their touch. But there is no evidence to support this myth. To sum up, keep using your hair products if they are working well for you. In case you face any issues, it is better to consult a professional hair specialist.
