Are you waiting in queue for your Covid-19 jab? Still not got a slot fixed? Well, you will, in some time as the vaccination drive is accelerating. You must, have researched the internet to know about how people are coping with the side effects of Covid-19. Also, possibly, how they are overcoming the same. Well, that’s one of the many questions, not just you, but everyone is concerned. With the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive, it is imperative to know a few things once you’ve got a Covid-19.
We are going to share with you a few things that you must know after getting the Covid-19 shot.
First and foremost, after you’ve received your shot, you must stay at the vaccination centre for 15-30 minutes in the observation area. It is to monitor any immediate or severe side effects. Note: In case you see any severe side effects, contact the healthcare worker immediately.
Side effects?
Most people, but not all, experience mild to short-term side effects after getting their Covid-19 jab. These are a few of the side-effects within the first or second day:
- Pain at the injection site and tenderness in the arm
- Chills/fever
- Fatigue
- Headache
As per WHO Global Advisory Committee on Vaccine Safety, there are reports of illness like influenza after getting the Covid-19 jab. The symptoms are the same as mentioned in the list above. Nonetheless, those symptoms get resolved within a few days.
Women are experiencing more side effects than men.
As reported in Times Of India, the vaccine works differently across genders. Women are more likely to show signs of side effects than men. Moreover, the side effects tend to be harsher and intense for women. Although, there could be a difference in reporting of the symptoms between men and women.
What is the reason behind this?
It is because of the way hormones reacts with the immune system for women. With the increased estrogen hormone level, inflammatory reactions can heighten causing, an increase in the duration of the side effects. Furthermore, due to the hormonal changes, women tend to experience swollen lymph nodes under their arms. But as for men, there are fewer reports on side effects caused due to the vaccine.
Furthermore, women also have a sturdy immune response because the sex hormones like estrogen, progesterone and testosterone bind the immune cells and impact how they work. Estrogen is known to boost antibody levels and testosterone to suppress them.
Is there any different diet after getting a vaccination?
There is no dependency or ineffectiveness of vaccines on what food or drink you consume before or after the jab. However, avoid getting your vaccination on an empty stomach.
No sign of side effects? Does this mean an individual is not protected?
It’s okay if an individual is not experiencing side effects. Not everyone experience side effects. Moreover, one does not need to have side effects to determine whether they are protected or not. The vaccine still works if there are no side effects.
Once an individual is vaccinated, can they catch Covid-19 from the vaccines?
Please note that one cannot catch Covid-19 from the vaccine. However, they can contract Covid-19 before their vaccination slot without realising the same due to no symptoms or circumstances.
When can an individual resume their daily life?
It depends upon the individual’s health status. If they feel unwell, they must take care, rest and avoid driving or performing any task. If they have a sore arm, they must avoid lifting anything heavy.
Can an individual take a different second dose?
You must ensure that you take the vaccine doses from the same manufacturer. Additionally, you must keep a record card with you for your next appointment fixed after the stipulated 3 and 12 weeks.
